The University of New Mexico retained Architectural Research Consultants, Incorporated (ARC) to prepare a facility program for a partial hospital program for the Childrens’ Psychiatric Hospital (CPH) located on the north campus of the University. The CPH is a licensed psychiatric hospital for the treatment of seriously disturbed children and adolescents throughout the state. The partial hospital is an outpatient facility that will allow CPH to provide less expensive service for up to 18 children without increasing inpatient beds.

The partial hospital program will encompass about 9,300 gross square feet and include therapy rooms, education classrooms, an all purpose room, administrative functions and support space. A key aspect of the program was to provide environmentally appropriate spaces integrated with the existing facilities. Siting of the new facility in a manner that allows for long-range growth of CPH and surrounding university functions was also a major consideration.
