Sandia’s Geosciences Research and Applications group consists of seven organizations currently housed in three buildings at Sandia. The study documents the high-level requirements to house the group’s load test labs and associated offices, electrical and chemistry labs, and support space needs in one facility.

The study outlines the associations and adjacencies between laboratory space and office space, including the spatial relationships between the seven organizations that engage in related work processes. Interviews with users of and visitors to existing facilities helped identify the connections between functional spaces. The layout diagrams in this report illustrate these adjacencies, and take into account the separation requirements of vibration-producing heavy labs from vibration-sensitive labs.

The study presents two potential development options: as two separate buildings, and as a single building. Each option groups common areas to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness and reduce redundant space types between the two buildings.
